John Doubleday has lived most of his life in the village of Great Totham, Essex. His international reputation is for public sculpture, which has been a feature of his career since the mid-seventies. His work is to be seen in many countries - almost all of it is figurative and it is mostly based on portraiture.
However, there has been another aspect to his output which is in a more freely creative style in both 2 and 3 dimensions. Some would see this as of greater creative interest but the two aspects are not independent of each other – It is just that with commission work the creative parameters are established with the client.
Those interested in commissioning sculpture should discuss their project directly with the sculptor. The project concerned might be for a large public work, an integral part of a new development or a site specific work designed for an existing context. Individual portraiture which has always been one of his strengths, and sculpture intended for a natural setting is one of his particular interests.
The process of commissioning a work is interesting and clients always enjoy involvement in the planning and production of a remarkably durable work.
The price of commissions is based on a minimum fee of £1,500 plus expenses, with larger work proportionate to cost. |
